Family Guy: Season 2

*****

The laughs come faster and thicker in this second series of America's most eccentric family. Homer Simpson, on his best day, cannot emulate the craziness of Peter Griffin. Brian is still cynical as hell and Stewie is still planning to take over the world. It's a bizarre alternate universe, where logic takes a holiday and all laws of nature are meaningless.

It's impossible to pick out a best episode, as they are all absolute gems. Those featured in Season Two are Da Boom, Brian in Love, I Am Peter - Hear Me Roar, A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Bucks, Fifteen Minutes Of Shame, Road To Rhode Island, Let's Go To The Hop, Dammit Janet, There's Something About Paulie, He's Too Sexy For His Fat, E.Peterbus Unum, The Story On Page 1, Wasted Talent, Fore Father and the too-offensive-for-television episode When You Wish Upon A Weinstein.

Exactly why When You Wish Upon A Weinstein was never shown on TV is puzzling. It concerns Peter's belief that a Jewish accountant will help him become rich and that being Jewish is the right direction for Chris. There isn't anything particularly offensive about it. In fact the only shocking thing is the revelation that Optimus Prime is Jewish. Something Hasbro never let on about.

Each episode has its classic moments, such as Peter's MASSIVE fight with a giant chicken, Peter breast-feeding Stewie, Brian becoming reacquainted with his mother, a toad-licking craze taking over Quahog, Big Fat Paulie's death, a thin attractive Peter and a gay Luke Perry.

Seth McFarlane scored an absolute winner with this series. And for those of you who are worried that we'll never see any more episodes, fear not. The Region 1 DVDs have sold so well that Fox and McFarlane are discussing making a feature length Family Guy.

Bring it on!

PS: it must be mentioned that, unlike Season 1, this set is NOT uncut. Seth McFarlane narrowly avoided being killed in the September 11 attacks - he just missed the flight that crashed into WTC 1 - and so the Osama Bin Laden jokes from Road To Rhode Island have been erased. This particular episode suffers another cut in the scene where Peter watches the "man part" of the marriage counselling video. What was cut, you ask? The host licking her nipples and inserting a dildo.

Come on! This is rated 15. Why cut this???
