Eye For Film >> Movies >> Strange Wilderness (2008) Film Review
With their wildlife show tanking in the ratings, Peter Gaulke (Steve Zahn) and Fred Wolf (Allan Covert) go in search of Bigfoot. With a stoned and hopeless crew, it's not going to go smoothly.
Strange Wilderness is mindless. It aims low and achieves that. If you're drunk, or high, then there'll be a few laughs. If you're sober, it'll depend on how willing you are to go with the flow. It's not the worst film ever, but it's far from being good.
Although it takes many of its cues from Adam Sandler, Strange Wilderness falls a long way short of its predecessors. Even with lowbrow comedies, the defining factor is "comedy"; here there is none. It's not poorly made, nor is it painful to watch, but it's dull, uninteresting and unfunny.
The ensemble cast of faces you vaguely recognise (Ernest Borgnine, Harry Hamlin and Robert Patrick crop up in cameos) do the best they can. Whilst everyone seems to be having a fair amount of fun making the film, ultimately there's nothing for the audience to care about. When the final scene fizzles out to nothing, you know it's been a wasted journey.
Don't bother.
