The Replacements

You know what this movie is? It's tired and catatonic, an Eighties-style conveyer belt mish-mash that is more like an American Football version of Police Academy than anything else. And those who are not familiar with the technicalities of American Football will be lost for most of the time

The remaining part you've seen before. I mean, a million times. A football team is crap, jock quarterback makes them good, has a crush on cheerleader, best player is injured, they go head to head with evil opposition in the final, they are losing really badly when... gee, DO YOU THINK THEY'LL WIN?!

The characters are cartoon cutouts and once again this movie portrays African-Americans as being either eccentric crazy people, jive-talking gangstas or badass dudes.

Director Howard Deutch brings nothing to the film and it's hardly surprising considering he has little of interest under his belt. His filmmaking is pedestrian and contributes massively to making this instantly forgettable.

If you like this kind of thing, maybe you should watch The Karate Kid, or Rocky, or maybe Police Academy 4. You're guaranteed the same standard of direction, writing and quality.
