EIFF 2001: Day 8

Anna Chancellor in town for UK Premiere of Crush.

by Trinity

Today was a quieter day after the extravaganza of yesterday. There were plenty of hip young filmmakers in town, with the Mirrorball party also taking place last night. Here some of the finest new talent mingled and boogied, whilst sampling the delights on offer from Yo! Sushi.

The big screening today was Crush and, although star Andie McDowell (pictured centre) didn't turn up, we were treated to an introduction from the director, John McKay, and actress Anna Chancellor (left) who puts in a memorable performance in the film.

Also today was the Haskell Wexler special event, with both a screening of his feted politically charged film, Medium Cool, as well as a documentary about the documentary, Look Out Haskell, It's Real, by Paul Cronin who is also the curator of this year's Werner Herzog retrospective. Wexler himself was reunited with the star of his film, Verna Bloom, in a very touching moment.
