Diego Luna at the UK premiere of Rudo Y Cursi
Everybody in the film world is looking forward to Rudo & Cursi, and if you've seen director Carlos Cuarón's previous work (he co-wrote indie hit Y Tu Mamá También with his brother Alfonso and also produced The Assassination Of Richard Nixon) then you'll know why. Alfonso was a producer on this film and joined him on the red carpet in Edinburgh. Also present were stars Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna.
"What was it like, directing these two?" Carlos was asked, to which he replied promptly "With monkeys, you do not direct them. You train them."
Rudo & Cursi is a football story - rather like the recent Looking For Eric it deals with fandom and what it means to love the sort, but it differs in that its characters actually have talent. They're two brothers recruited for different teams who strugle to preserve their friendship despite their professional rivalry. On the red carpet, though, everyone was clearly the best of friends. If the film turns out to have half as much energy as this team has in the flesh, it'll be quite a treat.
