Opportunity knocks for disabled directors

Channel 4 seeks film-makers for new documentary series

by Amber Wilkinson

Channel 4 is launching a new series - 4 Real - which aims to give deaf and disabled directors an opportunity to get their first major broadcast credit.

They are looking for 12 directors with recent television or film-making experience to bring us their ideas for strong, compelling stories which will appeal to a Channel 4 audience.

Channel 4 said: "We will support them in developing their ideas into distinctive, contemporary 30 minute documentaries.

"The choice of subject is wide open. What's important is that the films are fresh and original with a broad, popular appeal.

"Maybe you have directed short films or items for television and want to extend your range and experience. Or you have worked on a broadcast series as an AP or researcher but have ambitions to direct. Possibly you have experience of directing a non-broadcast documentary film and want to reach a wider broadcast audience."

The application form and guidelines are available from: http://www.mavericktv.co.uk. Guidelines and application forms are available in large print or Braille if required.
