Films share Sebastian shell

Two movies take top award at festival

by Amber Wilkinson

Black comedy Half Moon (Niwemang) scooped a Golden Shell Award at the San Sebastian Festival alongside French film Mon Fils A Moi.

But while the prize for Half Moon, by Kurdish Iranian director Bahman Ghobadi, was well-received at the press conference, the news regarding Martial Fougeron's Mon Fils A Moi was met with cries of derision from some critics.

The Special Jury prize was given to Argentinian comedy El Camino De San Diego, while the silver shell for best director was picked up by American Tom DiCillo's offbeat comedy drama Delirious.

The silver shell for best actress went to French veteran Nathalie Baye for her role in Mon Fils A Moi, while the equally experienced Spanish actor Juan Diego won the male silver shell equivalent.

Tom DiCillo also won the jury prize for best screenplay, while Nigel Bluck and Crighton Bone received the jury prize for best photography for their work on Half Moon.

The TCM Audience Award, meanwhile went to crowd pleaser Little Miss Sunshine.

Other films to recieve awards were French film Fair Play (New Directors Award), Signapore Dreaming (New Screenwriters Award) and Os Trabalhos (Horizontes Award).
