Future Shorts launches 'secret cinema'

Movies to be shown in mystery locations across UK.

by Amber Wilkinson

Future Shorts and Future cinema are launching a series of secret film screenings, which aims to put the mystery and excitement back into cinema.

The monthly screenings of films will be shown at individually themed locations "to create a live cinematic experience that will incorporate surprise rescores, special guests and live installations".

Taking place in six cities throughout the UK, the location of the screening will be revealed on the morning of the event to those who have signed up to www.secretcinema.org and a clue will be given about what film will be shown.

The location will vary with each film and could be anything from derelict theatres and rooftops, to parks, and the films will vary from special previews to classics and cult favourites.

Founder and director of Secret Cinema and Future Shorts, Fabien Riggall, said: "The secret cinema is a monthly gathering of all that love stimulating, challenging and groundbreaking cinema. The internet is changing the way we watch films. Secret cinema changes where we watch films"

Following the launch event on 16th December in London, Secret will host monthly events in London, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast from February 2008.
