by Amber Wilkinson

Actress Susannah York died yesterday.

The British actress, who starred in a string of films including A Man For All Seasons and They Shoot Horses Don't you, was reported by the Telegraph to have lost her long battle with cancer.

The Oscar-nominated star, whose screen career began in 1959, worked right up until last year, starring both on the big screen and in television roles including Holby City.

She was married to Michael Wells, with whom she had two children, Orlando and Sasha. The pair divorced in 1976 and she did not remarry.

Paying tribute to her last night, Orlando described her as "an absolutely fantastic mother".
