Goodbye from Glasgow

The 7th Glasgow Film Festival wraps up with The Eagle

by Jennie Kermode

The gala premiere of The Eagle brought a close to the 7th Glasgow Film Festival tonight. The cinema was packed for what seems set to be one of the big blockbusters of 2011, following the troubled journey of a Roman soldier charged with bringing back the totem Eagle that belonged to the Ninth Legion after they were lost north of Hadrian's Wall. Several celebrities were in attendance, including Lantana star Anthony LaPaglia, and the screening was followed by a party which went on late into the night.

Festival organisers were proud to announce that the event appears to have reached its target of 33,000 attendees this year, improving significantly on last year's attendance despite the difficult financial times. The Eye For Film team agreed that it has been a very successful event overall with a number of impressive films enjoying their first festival screenings.
