Frightfest headliners announced

August scares will come courtesy of Guillermo Del Toro.

by Jennie Kermode

With just two months to go until this year's Film4 Frightfest, the most talked-about event on the horror calender, its opening and closing films have been announced. Top of the bill is Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark, which is written and directed by comic book artist Troy Nixey and produced by Guillermo Del Toro. Featuring a terrifying Tooth Fairy to rival those in the producer's Hellboy 2, it stars Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce and is expected to go on general release in September.

The closing film will be Scottish film A Lonely Place To Die, in which a group of mountaineers travelling through the highlands find a Serbian girl who has been buried alive. Directed by Julian Gilbey, it stars Melissa George.

We'll bring you details about other festival highlights as soon as they're released. The festival runs from 25 - 29 August and tickets go on sale at the start of next month.
