Greg Nicotero to be honoured at Frightfest

Iconic effects director will receive inaugural award.

From Romero to Tarantino, Greg Nicotero has worked with them all. The Pittsburgh-born special effects and make-up artist, who also cameos in several big name films, will now become the first ever recipient of Film4 Frightfest's Variety Award.

Nicotero's credits include Predators, Kill Bill, Transformers, Mulholland Drive, Misery and Evil Dead 2. He has also worked on mainstream hits like Casino Royale and Water For Elephants, and even contributed his skills to The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe. A keen problem-solver, he is known for his impressive work with prosthetics and for the imaginative approach he brings to each project.

The Frightfest team, who stress their excitement at working with Variety magazine, say they consider Nicotero the ideal choice for this award. "Every time we see him his career seems to have taken another quantum leap and we are thrilled Variety has recognised his contribution to the genre in both fan and business terms. We love his company as much as his professionalism and are looking forward to hosting him on this auspicious occasion," said festival director Alan Jones.

The award ceremony wll take place during Frightfest on August 25.
