Next year's Glasgow Film Festival has two anniversaries to celebrate. The first is its tenth birthday. The second is the 75th birthday of the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT), the cinema at its heart. In celebration of this, it will be holding a series of films and events themed around the year 1939, including screenings of all the Best Picture Oscar nominees for that year: films like Dark Victory, Gone With The Wind and The Wizard Of Oz.

Also new at the February festival will be a strand dedicated to Chilean cinema, which has made an increasing impact on UK audiences in recent years thanks to the likes of Gloria and No. Alongside this, there will be a continuation of last year's successful Pop Up Cinema event, showcasing cult films in unusual locations, with themed events.

"The Festival has grown and developed in ways that we couldn't have imagined in 2005," said festival co-director Allan Hunter. "It has been nurtured and sustained by the enthusiasm and passionate dedication of audiences from near and far who have come to regard Glasgow as their Festival and an event they can trust to bring them the best cinematic experiences, the most accessible guests and the most affordable prices."
