It was a big night for Pawel Pawlikowski's Ida in Riga tonight, as it won Best Film at the European Film awards and picked up four other awards as well. Pawlikowski, who recently talked to us about making the film, received the Best Director award. With the last two EFA Best Film winners, Amour and The Great Beauty, going on to win Oscars, hopes will now be high for Poland's entry.

Britain did well this year, with Timothy Spall winning Best Actor for Mr. Turner and Steve McQueen picking up an Achievement in World Cinema award.
