From Afar (Desde Alla), the debut first feature from Lorenzo Vigas, has won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival.

The Venezuelan/Mexican co-production centres on a middle-aged man who lures young men in Caracas home on the promise of cash. The Silver Lion for Best Director went to Pablo Trapero for his Argentinian crime drama El Clan. The Grand Jury Prize went to Charlie Kaufman's collaboration with Duke Johnson, Anomalisa.

Jake Mahaffi's Free In Deed won the Orizzonti prize for Best Film but the big winner in the Orizzonti (Horizons) section was Brady Corbet's The Childhood Of A Leader.
