Sigourney Weaver will receive the Donostia Award at this year's San Sebastian Film Festival. The accolade for the Alien actress is in recognition of her film career and marks the 30th anniversary of the award - and the 20th time it has been given to a female star.

It is just the latest accolade for New York born Weaver, who won a Golden Globe for her portrayal of Dian Fossey in Gorilla's In The Mist - for which she was also Oscar nominated. She was also nominated for an Academy Award for her portray of Ripley in Aliens and for her supporting performance in Working Girl (for which she won the Golden Globe). She was awarded a BAFTA for her role in Ang Lee's The Ice Storm.

The actress will also attend the festival in support of her latest film A Monster Calls, by Catalan director J A Bayona, which will screen out of competition. She will receive the Donostia at a gala screening of the film on September 21. The movie, based on the young adult book by Patrick Ness, who has also adapted it for the screen, tells the story of Cooper, a 12-year-old boy who struggles to cope with his mother’s illness with the help of a monster who visits him in the middle of the night.
