Arrow Video FrightFest has cancelled its October event in a London Cineworld due to concerns about an emerging second wave of Covid-19. Although the new curfew has not been extended to cinemas, the organisers have said that the event would not be commercially viable, as the seating capacity of the cinema would be greatly reduced for safety reasons. it would also be impossible for attendees to enjoy the social experience that is a large part of Frightfest's appeal.

The planned digital event in October will still go ahead and will feature films that had been scheduled to be shown in the cinema. It will run from 22 to 26 October and open with standalone sequel Train To Busan: Peninsula.

"It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the Cineworld event. Although cinemas are not affected by the new hospitality rules, it was the tipping point in terms of what kind of event we were comfortable in presenting to the fans," said festival co-director Ian Rattray. "And with the threat of further London lockdown rules being imposed, it was felt the best plan was to move everything online."
