The full line-up for this year’s Glasgow Film Festival has been announced, including 10 world premières and no fewer than 65 UK premières. The festival will open with Graham Moore’s tale of a tailor caught between gangster factions, The Outfit, which stars Mark Rylance and Zoey Deutch. It will close with Murina, in which Antoneta Alamat Kusijanovic explores the relationship between a teenager and her controlling father – the winner of last year’s Camera D’Or.

Other highlights of the festival are Ruth Paxton’s compelling exploration of despair and abstinence, A Banquet, Paul Verhoeven’s spiritually complex lesbian nun drama Benedetta, and Sundance award winner Hive, whose director, Blerte Basholli, recently told us how excited she is by how it’s travelling the world.

“‘I can’t begin to describe our joy at being able to have our loyal, committed and fun audiences back to the festival. We have all undergone different and difficult times over the last two years and nothing helps us to heal and connect like film. Having audiences in both our festival venues and our partner cinemas across the UK is a source of joy. The team have worked incredibly hard to pull together a unique and wonderful programme to enjoy,” said festival co-director Allison Gardner.

“The team have watched more films than ever to compile a programme rich in its diversity and wonders. There are so many great films to recommend from around the world and I am especially excited by the abundance of Scottish stories and productions that showcase the country’s many shining talents.,” added co-director Allan Hunter.

Alongside the above-mentioned films are previously announced strands dedicated to African films and the work of pioneering Norwegian director Edith Carlmar, plus the ever-popular contribution from Frightfest.

The festival’s popular retrospective strand, which offers free films at the GFT in the morning, focuses on 1962 and includes enduring classics Lawrence Of Arabia and To Kill A Mockingbird.

We will be bringing you full coverage of the festival throughout here at Eye For Film.
