The biggest in news for canine film stars after the Palm Dog, the Fidos announced their longlist today at a special ceremony presided over by Deadpool & Wolverine star Peggy. Famous for playing Dogpool alongside Ryan Reynolds, she was joined by her human, Luke Middleton, and judge Anna Smith of Girls On Film, at London’s NFT South Bank, where the names of this year's stars were announced.

Unsurprisingly, Palm Dog winner Kodi made the list for her work in Dog On Trial. Other notables include Dave from Andrea Arnold's Bird and Kelpie from The Fall Guy. This year there are also animated entrants, making room for the canine characters seen in The Garfield Movie, Inside Out 2, Venom: The Last Dance and Robot Dreams.

"This year has been especially blessed with stand-out dog performances in films," said the event's founder, Toby Rose, who will host again this year. "What we know already is that dogrisma will triumph in the battle for a Fido and ultimately the grand prize: BFI Best in World."

The winners will be announced on Sunday 23 February.
