Even though this year's New York Film Festival runs from September 25 through October 11, the Opening Night Gala world premiere of Robert Zemeckis’s The Walk in 3D, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit with Ben Kingsley, Charlotte Le Bon and Ben Schwartz, will be held on September 26.
The Film Society of Lincoln Center Board Chairman Ann Tenenbaum expressed her delight when the new poster was announced “We are thrilled to welcome Laurie Anderson to the NYFF family, and to have an artist of her caliber carry on this 53-year tradition. Her innovative and daring work is a perfect representation of what we strive to achieve annually at the festival, and throughout the year at the Film Society.”
Laurie Anderson said of the honour, “The NYFF is such an eclectic and ecstatically wild mix of films, and I wanted to try to capture some of the variety of subjects and styles. The original piece this is based on, Follow The Sound, is 18 feet long with lots of plots and characters and fragments. I made this painting two years ago when I was feeling especially inspired by the scale of projected film and the possibilities of abrupt jump cuts. I’m so happy it’s the poster for this year’s festival.”
Laurie Anderson's work was feature in Michael Sládek's treasure chest filled documentary BAM150 celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Roman Polanski acknowledged the importance of BAM in his 2011 New York Film Festival Opening Night film, Carnage, starring Christoph Waltz, Jody Foster, Kate Winslet, John C. Reilly.
Heart Of A Dog will be screened at the Venice and San Sebastian Film Festivals this autumn.
The world premiere of Miles Ahead, Don Cheadle's directorial debut, in which he stars as Miles Davis, opposite Emayatzy Corinealdi, Ewan McGregor and Michael Stuhlbarg, will be the Closing Night Gala on October 11.
