César hopes for new talents

Freya Mavor, Rod Paradot and Félix Moati are among celebrated young stars.

Several young actors seen on screen or in person at this year’s 23rd edition of French Film Festival UK are in contention for nominations as best newcomer in the French Oscars, the Césars it was announced today (17 Nov).

Among them are: Scots-born Freya Mavor for The Lady in the Car with Glasses and a Gun by Joann Sfar, Rod Paradot for Standing Tall and Félix Moati for All About Them, all of whom attended the Festival to present their films.

Others in the line-up of 32 new talents are: Sara Giraudeau (Les Bêtises), Mathilde Bisson (Au plus près du soleil), Zita Hanrot (Fatima), Baya Medhaffar (A peine j'ouvre les yeux), Georgia Scalliet (L'Odeur de la mandarine), Lou Roy-Lecollinet (My Golden Days), English actress Stacy Martin (Taj Mahal) and Sophie Verbeeck (All About Them).

On the male side (besides Paradot and Moati) are: Jules Benchetrit (Macadam Stories), Quentin Dolmaire (My Golden Days), Kheiron (Nous trois ou rien), Karim Leklou (Coup de chaud), Swann Artaud (The Anarchists), Finnegan Oldfield (The Cowboys).

The 4200 members of the César Academy will vote on the newcomers and choose ten finalists to go forward to the final selection. The Césars ceremony takes place on 26 February at the Châtelet Theatre in Paris. All the nominations will be announced at the end of January.

French Film Festival UK continues until 13 December.
