American actress Julianne Moore will receive a Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema at the forthcoming 54th Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic, which runs from 28 June to 6 July.

Moore will be present to receive the award and to present her film After The Wedding with screenwriter, director and husband Bart Freundlich

The festival organisers state that Moore and Freundlich are "an excellent example of the artistic combination of two outstanding individuals”.

Their personal and cinematic partnership was born during the filming of Freundlich’s directorial debut on the claustrophobic family drama The Myth Of Fingerprints (1997), which will also screen in the festival. Ever since then, Moore has regularly appeared in her husband’s films. In World Traveler (2001), she and Billy Crudup played two people who meet under unusual circumstances, and several years later she and David Duchovny portrayed a couple in the comedy drama Trust The Man (2005).

In After The Wedding, a drama about an encounter that reveals hidden secrets, Moore plays one of the lead roles and in addition is one of the producers of the film. Co-star Crudup also will be in attendance at the opening ceremony.

Another American actress Patricia Clarkson, who this year won a Golden Globe for her performance in the HBO series Sharp Objects, selected episodes of which had their European avant-premiere at last year’s festival, also will be honoured. Clarkson will be present at the festival’s closing ceremony to personally accept her Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. Clarkson will present the film Learning to Drive, directed by Isabel Coixet, during the Festival.

Other Stateside guests include Casey Affleck who returns to Karlovy Vary to introduce his film Light of My Life which he directed, wrote, produced, and stars in opposite newcomer Anna Pniowsky. The story follows a father (Affleck) and daughter (Pniowsky) living on the outskirts of society destabilised by a deadly pandemic. He was last in the spa town in 2017 for his film A Ghost Story, when he received the Festival’s President’s Award.

The Festival’s closing gala will be Nisha Ganatra’s Late Night featuring Emma Thompson as a late night TV host although it’s not known at this stage if she will be a guest.
