It was voted on by 791 film critics from across the globe. The adaptation of Alasdair Gray's novel about the evolution of a young woman (Emma Stone) has enjoyed a run of success since premiering at last year's Venice Film Festival, picking up four Oscars. It is the first time the Greek director has received the Grand Prix.
The other four finalists were Do not Expect Too Much from The End of the World, by Radu Jade, Evil Does Not Exist by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, All of Us Strangers, by Andrew Haigh and The Seed Of The Sacred Fig, by Mohamad Rasoulof.
The FIPRESCI Grand Prix will be presented on 20 September at the opening gala of the 72nd San Sebastian Film Festival. The winning film will screen on the same day.
