Star quality for the 1999 festival came in the form of Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan, while other famous names in attendance included Ray Winstone, Tim Roth and Robert Carlyle. The Buena Vista Social Club salsa'd off with the audience award, while the Michael Powell Award for Best New British Feature Film went to The War Zone. Lynne Ramsay won the New Directors Award by Ratcatcher. The short film Award was shared by Jamie Thraves for I Just Want To Kiss You and Matt Hulse for Wee Three.
