This year's Edinburgh International Film Festival kicked off with controversial William Friedkin film Killer Joe.
Japanese, Chinese and Filipino films featured in dedicated strands and a South American focus took in work from Uruguay, Chile and Argentina. The festival closed with the European premiere of Disney-Pixar's Brave.
Penny Woolcock won The Michael Powell Award for her documentary One Mile Away and Mao Mao took home the international award for Here, Then. Read about all the prize winners here.
